Latest Projects

Some of you have noticed we have cleared the drainage ditch that runs between #10 and behind the ladies tee on #18. This was done for playability and aesthetics and I must say it looks a lot nicer. We have also started to clear the small brush and some trees behind #12 green, this is being done to allow for a more sunlight and airflow. The back of #12 green lacked morning sunlight and the area around the green always stayed wet. Morning sunlight and airflow are critical for healthy grass, especially promoting bentgrass. Without it plants can have physiological problems that can lead to disease and eventually a poor putting surface. Here are a couple of photos of these areas.

Nursery Green

Some of you may know that we have a nursery green near #3 green and just south of the pump house. Fortunately we didn't need to use any of it after this winter, but it is really good to have.  It can be used to test unfamiliar products before applying anything to the greens that are in play. We would ask that you take a free drop if your ball lands on it. Below is a picture of it.

Drain lines in #2 fairway

We are in the process of leveling the drain lines in #2 fairway. This will take some time as I decided to top dress these areas to level them off. This process could go into next season to complete, but will be worth it. Not only are these areas ugly to look at, they can also make for a terrible lie and uneven cuts when mowers travel across them. Below are some pictures of these lines I mention. There are several others areas throughout the course that we will fix, but #2 is by far the worst of them.

Fall is a great time of year for doing projects

Fall is a great time to do projects since we are not mowing daily and we are staying ahead of the leaves. The maintenance staff is still working to get important things done before the end of the year.  The left side of the tennis court has been painted, those two low areas in #1 fairway have been raised up and sodded, that really low spot on the right side of #5 fairway has been filled in and sodded as well.  What was that low spot in #5 fairway anyway?  My bet would be a meteor landed there at one point.  Here are some pictures of the progress.
