These are caused by fungal organisms feeding on organic matter causing these dark green and sometimes brown circles. The organic matter could be that of an old decaying tree stump buried during construction. Mushrooms are sometimes associated with these as they will also grow with the circle. Typically fairy rings don't cause damage and can be seen as small as a few inches to as big as 50 feet.
