It seems like we had spring this winter and jumped right into summer. Soil and air temperatures are way above normal and things are moving along very rapidly. This is probably going to be a difficult year for everyone when dealing with weeds, insects and other pests, including poa annua seed heads. Golf courses that spray for poa annua seed head suppression like us count on data compiled through many years of research through various organizations. With this season being abnormal, there isn't a ton of data to count on like you would have in a typical year.
The moss eradication program has been a success. To keep it from coming back, we must keep providing the best environment for grass. Verticutting, topdressing and aerification are critical in order to do this.
We are all excited and are expecting the new equipment by the end of the month. Also, most of the grounds crew that was on staff last year are excited about returning this year. We all look forward to a great 2012 golf season.
