Venting

As previously mentioned, last week was a tough week for turf. During the summer greens get compacted, roots shrink, soil and canopy temperatures rise which in turn puts a lot of extra stress on the greens. When we get into extreme temperatures like we just went through the plants can become weak. That is why we are taking advantage of this cool weather to needle tine the greens. This process is often referred to as venting. We are using a very small tine to poke small holes in the greens surface. After the greens are rolled you can barely tell anything was done. This process is a way to give the greens a breath of fresh air.
