The Stress of Collars & Scalping
Like all of our increasing waistlines and the belt holes constantly under strain, a green's collars are an area that can sometimes lose their size and shape. Hence, we are reclaiming Metamora's GC collars' uniformity and proverbial "weight" by narrowing their width to 22 inches. If only our own girth could be reclaimed so easily! The new collar's size will be consistent for each green with the exception of the nursery green. The nursery green will be left a bit wider in case it needs to grow, or to use a more disturbing verb, in case, we need to harvest and relocate a portion of it in the future. Jonathan Swift was actually a golfer I am told. Anyway, in order to narrow the collar and further the disturbing verbiage of G C upkeep, we've scalped parts of the old collar a little at a time (should we lament or praise the warrior Scots for these idioms?). I digress... Spring and Fall are the best times to do this. I prefer Spring because there is usually plenty of moisture for the grass & plants and the heat stress in Michigan is (usually) not a factor. In the pictures below you can see the width of the new collars.
